Vanessa Velez of Hazleton, a fourth-year medical student at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, is the author of a poem, entitled "Body Field Meets Sterile Field," published in the September 2017 edition of in-Training, an online magazine for medical students. The poem examines the intimate relationship that occurs when a patient entrusts body and soul (the sacred) to the tools of a surgeon (the metal). The poem is accompanied by artwork the author created using Copic markers, Micron pigma pens and "love." Another of Vanessa's poems, "Testimony (2016)" was published in the January 2017 edition of in-Training.
