2016 Sep 13

First-year TCMC medical student Adit Singhal is co-author of a paper published in the August 2016 edition of The International Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Case Reports. Researchers at Georgetown University and of Topiwala National Medical College and Sathaye College, both in Mumbai, India, collaborated on the paper. The journal publishes case reports in the areas of medical and pharmaceutical sciences and is a quality-controlled, open peer-reviewed international journal.

The article, "Amniotic Band Sequence: A Case Report," highlights the importance of general availability of pre-natal care, such as ultrasonography, in the developing world to diagnose congenital diseases at an earlier stage.

"I am interested in entering a surgical specialty, though I am keeping an open mind," Singhal said. "And I am especially interested in incorporating research to some degree in my practice in order to continuously contribute back to the sciences and also adapt to the rapid technological advancements in healthcare today. Being part of this research paper, to me, highlighted again that the socioeconomic impact on health outcomes is a global issue, and its set of associated challenges is one which must be understood and considered by all physicians."
