2017 Nov 30

Shradha Chhabria of Stroudsburg, a member of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's MD Class of 2021, traveled with other Geisinger Commonwealth students to the University of Pennsylvania to attend the Racism in Medicine Conference 2017. The purpose of the conference was to provide an opportunity for people in healthcare or related fields to examine the ways that racism affects the health of marginalized people and to develop strategies to oppose it.

The conference featured talks by Jaya Aysola, M.D., M.P.H., an assistant professor of medicine and pediatrics at Penn's Perelman School of Medicine and Tukufu Zuberi, Ph.D., professor of sociology and Africana studies, as well as the Lasry Family Professor of Race Relations at Penn. Attendees also had several break-out sessions from which to choose and the opportunity to network.

Geisinger Commonwealth co-sponsored the conference together with the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Drexel University College of Medicine, Temple University School of Medicine, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University and Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Jefferson University.
