2017 Sep 21

Shane Zeshonski of Archbald, a member of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's MD Class of 2020 and a fellow student on Sept. 14 delivered a presentation on mental health and substance use disorders in northeastern Pennsylvania. The students, both students are recipients of the Commonwealth Health Future Physician Scholarship, assessed the scope of the problem and described potential interventions.

The students' presentation is the result of their detailed community health research project, which all Geisinger Commonwealth medical students are required to complete. Community health research projects are intentionally aimed at finding solutions to health problems specific to the communities the school of medicine serves.

The student presentation was delivered to mental health and addiction counselors and healthcare providers at a public session arranged by Commonwealth Health First Hospital at the Thomas P. Saxton Medical Pavilion in Kingston.
