Rachel Polinski of Sayre awarded scholarship from the Pennsylvania Medical Society

2016 Nov 10

Rachel Polinski of Sayre, a third-year medical student at The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC) in Scranton, was awarded a scholarship from the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) Alliance Medical Education Scholarship (AMES) Fund. Polinski was presented with the scholarship at PAMED's annual inauguration and awards ceremony at the Great American Hall of the Convention Center in Hershey in October. The West Scholarship recognizes three generations of Pennsylvania Medical Society and Alliance leadership provided by the West family at the county, state and national levels. The scholarship was presented by AMES Fund Committee chairperson, Caryl Schmitz on behalf of Dr. William J. West Jr., in memory of Dr. William B. West and in honor of Dr. William J. West and Joyce West.

Since 2003, the AMES Fund has provided 132 scholarships amounting to $321,500 to students from nine Pennsylvania medical schools. Ms. Polinski is currently doing her third-year clinical rotations at the Guthrie in Sayre. She is in the second cohort of TCMC students doing rotations at the Guthrie. She plans to specialize in either family medicine, pathology or emergency medicine.

The valedictorian of the Sayre High School class of 2010, Polinski graduated with honors in biochemistry-molecular biology from Ursinus College in 2014. She is the daughter of Daniel and Judy Polinski of Sayre.
