Lindsay Falgoust of Hatboro organizes first 'Geisinger Commonwealth Family Day of Service'

2017 Oct 27

Lindsay Falgoust of Hatboro, a second-year medical student at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and Medical Student Council community service chair, organized the school's first "Geisinger Commonwealth Family Day of Service," which took place on Oct. 28. Working with Ida L. Castro, Geisinger Commonwealth's vice president for community engagement, she led the effort to collaborate with a wide variety of community organizations to launch the event.

The Family Day of Service was created to help promote unity in service and provide the chance for students, faculty and staff to build relationships outside of academics. The event involved 15 service projects and more than 200 Geisinger Commonwealth volunteers.

Some of the community organizations receiving help from Geisinger Commonwealth volunteers include Geisinger Commonwealth's Community Garden and its Regional Education Academy for Careers in Health - Higher Education Initiative (REACH-HEI), The Sleeping Bag Project, 5Kate for Katie Foundation, The Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society, Greenhouse Project a Nay Aug Park, Penn State Master Gardener Program, Lackawanna Historical Society, Elm Park United Methodist Church, Waverly Community House, Commission on Economic Opportunity, Gino J. Merli Veteran Center, Luzerne County Medical Society and the St. Joseph's Center Adult Program and Baby Pantry.
