Kristina Borham of Oxford, other members of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's Military Medicine Interest Group help vets celebrate Veterans Day

2017 Nov 16

Kristina Borham of Oxford and other members of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's (Geisinger Commonwealth) Military Medicine Interest Group (MMIG) helped celebrate Veterans Day on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center in Scranton and throughout the week at the school.

On Nov. 11, students handed out service hats to the veterans. Then, Kristina Borham and classmate, Matthew Weirich, both members of the MD Class of 2020, addressed a group of veterans at a reception at the center, speaking about what being in the military meant to them, what they anticipate as future military physicians and expressing their gratitude toward the assembled veterans for their service.

The group also planted flags on the lawn at the School of Medicine, wrote letters to deployed members of the military and organized a "push up and sit up" competition to mark Military Medicine week, an observance Geisinger Commonwealth's MMIG organizes annually to honor those who serve.
