Geisinger Commonwealth grad, Lesley Walinchus-Foster of Springfield, receives Excellence in Emergency Medicine award

Lesley Walinchus-Foster of Springfield, a member of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's (Geisinger Commonwealth) MD Class of 2017, received the "Dr. Lester Saidman Award for Excellence in Emergency Medicine" at a ceremony on May 6.

The award was established by Dr. Saidman's family to honor the doctor's service to the medical profession and the community. One of the late Dr. Saidman's passions was the Emergency Room at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. During his practice at Lake Noxen Clinic, Dr. Saidman would split his time seeing patients in Noxen, at his home and in the Emergency Room. He was chairman of the Emergency Room Committee and was instrumental in bringing the concept of 24-hour around-the-clock emergency care coverage to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Dr. Walinchus-Foster's exemplary approach to medicine resulted in her induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, which recognizes and advocates for excellence in scholarship and the highest ideals in the profession of medicine.She will complete her residency in emergency medicine at Cooper University Hospital in New Jersey.
