Bo Jung of Horsham, three other Geisinger Commonwealth MBS students, attend HIV Prevention and Outreach Summit in Philadelphia

Bo Jung of Horsham and three other master of biomedical sciences (MBS) students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's Doylestown campus attended the HIV Prevention and Outreach Summit in Philadelphia. The summit provides the latest information about research, evidence-based HIV prevention, outreach strategies, and best practices in targeting and connecting to care the most at-risk groups in Philadelphia.

Attendees at the summit included people living with HIV/AIDS; caregivers; those working in the HIV field, such as case managers, social workers, healthcare providers, prevention workers, street outreach workers, city employees, researches, and sexual health educators; those working in allied fields; and, anyone interested in learning more about HIV/AIDS.

The event was held as part of the AIDS Education Month hosted by Philadelphia Fight.

Opening speakers of the conference were Dr. Roberta Laguerre-Frederique and Jeanne White-Ginder. Dr. Laguerre-Frederique is an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Drexel University College of Medicine. She is also clinical director of the Section of Immunology and an attending immunologist at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia

Jeanne White-Ginder is an author, activist and mother of Ryan White. In addition to the opening speakers, the summit featured presentations, and free screenings for Hepatitis B and HIV.

Geisinger Commonwealth's Doylestown campus is located at the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute (BSBI). BSBI, formerly the Institute for Hepatitis and Virus Research, is the nation's leading nonprofit research organization dedicated to hepatitis B and liver cancer worldwide. It was established by the Hepatitis B Foundation in 2003 to fulfill its research mission of finding a cure for hepatitis B in our lifetime.
